God Talk At Home

This Week’s Kingdom Quest Lesson:
Worship the King of Peace

Take Home Point:
In worship, God comes to us and we go to him with our praise.

FOR STARTERS: Take turns humming your favorite Christian song or hymn and see who’s first to correctly guess what song it is. After all have revealed their favorite song, each person can then tell why it is his favorite. The entire family might even want to have a praise time and sing together. You may want to use background music.

READ THE BIBLE:  Matthew 21:1-11

A KEY VERSE: Matthew 21:9: “Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest heaven!”

TALK ABOUT IT: How did the people in the Bible reading prepare the road for Jesus? What did they shout to him? How does Jesus come to us? How can we prepare the way for worshiping Jesus?

PRAYER POWER: In Kingdom Quest the children made an obstacle course for a small ball and talked about obstacles that get in the way of worshiping God. We tend to focus on ourselves and happenings around us instead of focusing on God.

Pray that your family would focus on God and not themselves when coming together to worship. Thank the Lord for sending Jesus to be our King of Peace.

FAMILY TIME OPTIONS: There are many obstacles for families getting the most out of their worship experience. Discuss what obstacles your family faces and how you might overcome them. Do you find yourselves stressed trying to get ready for church? Does it seem like the kids fight more than usual on Sunday mornings?

Here are some ideas. Think of ways to get prepared starting the evening before with laying out clothes and making other choices. Maybe you could all get up a little earlier to have a relaxing breakfast with worship music in the background

God Talk At Home

Ages 4-5-K

This Week’s Lesson:

Palm Sunday: The King’s Parade

Take Home Point:

(Parents Say): Jesus is our King.

(Kids Say): Praise Jesus!

TODAY IN KINGDOM QUEST WE DID:

·         Participated in a palm branch parade.
·         Made and ate palm branches.
·         Played a game, “Hosanna to the King"

READ THE EVENT:
The Triumphal Entry, from an early reading Bible, or read and summarize the event from Matthew 21:1-11.

JESUS LINK:

When we praise Jesus, we are worshipping God.

TALK ABOUT IT:

  • When Jesus rode into Jerusalem, what did the people do?
  • Why did they praise Jesus?
·         How can we praise Jesus?
PRAYER POWER:
As a family, think of different words to praise Jesus. Say a prayer using some of those words.
FAMILY TIME OPTIONS:
Take a praise walk around your house and (if the weather is nice) around your yard. Look for ways to praise Jesus. Examples include:
·   Make a praise band using pots, pans, and spoons.
·   Play a cassette or CD and dance for Jesus.
·   Jump off a stair step and yell “Hosanna!”
·   Find a tree branch and wave it in the air while yelling “Hosanna to the King!”
·   Draw or color a picture of Jesus.
·   Lie down and quietly pray a prayer of praise.
What other ideas can you think up?
